What is the definition of ferroalloy

A ferroalloy is an alloy in which one or more metallic or non-metallic elements are fused with iron elements. For example, ferrosilicon is a silicide such as Fe2Si, Fe5Si3, FeSi, FeSi2 and so on formed by silicon and iron, which are the main components of ferrosilicon, and the silicon in ferrosilicon mainly exists in the form of FeSi and FeSi2, especially FeSi is more stable. The melting point of different components of ferrosilicon is also different, for example, the melting point of 45% ferrosilicon is 1260 °C, and the melting point of 75% ferrosilicon is 1340 °C. Ferromanganese is an alloy of manganese and iron, which also contains carbon, silicon, phosphorus and other small amounts of other elements, according to its carbon content, ferromanganese is divided into high carbon manganese iron, medium carbon manganese iron and low carbon manganese iron. Manganese ferroalloys containing sufficient amount of silicon are called silicon-manganese alloys.  Ferroalloys are not metal materials that can be used directly, but are mainly used as intermediate raw materials for oxygen absorbers, reducing agents and alloy additives in steel production and foundry.
